St. Joseph 2015 Summer Ball
Dear Potential Parents and Players,
I hope that this email finds you well and in good health. I wanted to take a minute to send out an e-mail regarding summer baseball. I know it is still February; however we need to begin the process for the summer ball, so we have a clear understanding of what is expected and what we need to do in order to complete this process. The following is how we are going to proceed this summer:
When we talk about Freshman, Sophomore, and Juniors, we are talking about your current grade, not the grade you will be going into next September. Also, keep in mind that these expectations are to be followed, if you make the baseball team in the spring.
Seniors Expectations
The ABCCL, which is a college bridge league, and is run out of the Jersey Shore, and is the same representatives as the Fall League we have participated in. It is a league the sole purpose of bridging the gap for graduating High School players who need to play competitive baseball before eporting to their college workouts. It is going to take some initiative on your part. If this is something that interests you, please start researching the league and gathering information on it. If you would like to play in this league, please let me know no later than March 30. I will try and help as much as I can. If this does not interest you,
and you have a place to play then please respond back to me with your intentions. Unfortunately, St. Joseph HS does not offer a place to play for its graduating seniors. As, I said before, I would be more than happy to help in any way, just communicate what you aretrying to accomplish.
Freshman Expectations
The St. Joseph Baseball program requires ALL Freshman planning to play Summer Baseball, play with our St. Joseph HS Summer team. Our summer team participates in the Greater Middlesex County Coaches League, which consist of 12 regular season games plus playoff's. It is the expectation that ALL Freshman, who make the St. Joseph HS team this spring and who plan of playing some sort of organized summer baseball, play with our summer team as a first priority and use AAU "Travel Ball" as a supplement. We do this so that the Freshman players can begin their preparation towards the following baseball season by being coached by all the members of our Varsity Coaching Staff. We find this very important as we introduce concepts, ideas, and terminology that the Freshman players will be hearing come Fall Baseball and Spring Baseball.
Commitment to the St. Joseph team is crucial and we are asking that when there are days where your AAU team has a game on the same day as St. Joseph that you will be in attendance for our game. We fully support any player on the travel ball circuit, however we feel very strongly about our philosophy and all the benefits that we get out of it. It is also the expectation that if you also pitch, that your first commitment on the days you pitch and the innings you get should be to the St. Joseph summer team NOT AAU. The only exception that we allow for Freshman not playing with our Summer team is if that Freshman, receives the opportunity to play Junior Varsity Baseball at St. Joseph HS in the spring. If the player receives this honor then his first priority can be to his travel ball team.
Sophomores and Juniors
The St. Joseph Baseball program allows all Sophomores and Juniors to make their first priority to Travel Ball instead of the St. Joseph Summer Team. We do this so that you can begin to get yourself exposure and get your name out by attending showcase tournaments and by playing a more extensive schedule.
For those Sophomore’s and Junior’s who do not make a travel team or do not wish to play with a travel team, St. Joseph High School, will offer its own summer program providing we have enough players to fill the roster. The program will consist of either (1 or 2) Teams in The greater Middlesex County Summer Baseball League, (1) Team being comprised of our Freshman and the other a combination of Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors. The number of teams will depend on the number of players that commit to playing with the St. Joseph Summer Baseball Program. Sophomore's and Juniors looking to play travel baseball, I suggest the following:
**Contact the organization and see if there are tryout dates
**Provide me with a final commitment of where you have chosen to play, and contact information for that organization and coaching staff.
**Finally, if you are selected to play on a travel team, you will not be able to be a full time player on the St. Joseph High School Summer Teams. Any player that is selected to a travel team will be listed on the St. Joseph Summer Teams as an Alternate on the appropriate roster, selected by the coaching staff at St. Joseph High School. In addition, I will try my best to help you with any of your summer decisions, however please know that I HAVE NO BEARING ON WHO MAKES ANY OF THESE SUMMER TEAMS OR HOW THESE TRAVELCOACHES SELECT THEIR TEAMS.
